The City of Lyndon city council approved a $500,000 grant Aug. 28 supporting the Northeast Regional Library. The funds will be used to purchase books and other materials for the library, supplementing construction funding from Metro Government and the state. The grant was approved unanimously by city council.
“We’re really proud to support the Northeast Regional Library,” Mayor Brent Hagan said. “It’ll provide a full-service library to the residents of Northeast Jefferson County, with space for education, workforce development, cultural activities, and community gatherings.”
The Northeast Regional Library will be constructed in Lyndon, with groundbreaking scheduled for Sept. 21, 2017.
Features of the Northeast Regional Library will include:
- Sustainable, eco-friendly, cost-efficient 40,000-square-foot facility on 13 acres
- 130,000 books and other materials
- Innovative Maker’s Pavillion with hands-on, engaging learning
- Public meeting rooms
- Dedicated spaces for children and teens
- Public computers with wireless access
- Services for senior citizens
The total cost for the project is $17.8 million, with the Library Foundation raising $3.8 million of that total. The remaining $14 million is from Metro and state funds.
